Please join me and other community leaders to recognize Connie Ball, the 2024 Great Smoky Mountain Council Good Scout Award recipient for Cocke County. Connie’s life of service is a true testament to the Scout values – Integrity, Respect, Care, Belief, and Cooperation.
Connie Ball was born in Del Rio, TN in 1951, at the home of his parents, Lon and Erdine Ball. He attended Northport Elementary School and graduated from Cocke County High School in 1969. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation from Carson-Newman University in 1973 and a Master of Science in Administration and Supervision from East Tennessee State University in 1989. He began his professional career as a teacher at Edgemont Elementary from 1973 to 1980, was the principal at Del Rio Elementary from 1980 until 1995 and served as the principal at Edgemont Elementary from 1995 to 2013. Connie retired after almost 40 years of service with the Cocke County Board of Education. Connie was the founder of the Cocke County Sportsman Club in the early 1980’s and a founding board member of the Children’s Advocacy Center. He is a Reserve Deputy with the Cocke County Sheriff’s Department and past member of the Newport Kiwanis Club. He is an Elder at the Newport Church of Christ where he is a lifelong member. He was Mayor of the City of Newport for 14 years, served as Alderman for 13 years, and is currently Vice-Mayor of the City of Newport.
Connie married the love of his life, Marsha Hurley Ball on November 27, 1975. They have two children, Amy Jessica Ball and Connie Ball, Jr. Connie has 2 grandchildren who are his world, Taelyr Ball age 16 and Sully Ball age 6, and have another grandchild on the way due in April of 2024.
For more than 100 years, the Great Smoky Mountain Council, Boy Scouts of America has provided youth guidance in character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness. Your support is vital in assisting our mission to help young people reach their full potential. We hope you can join us as we honor Connie and support the meaningful programs and activities that define Scouting in our community.
Please join us for dinner on Monday April 29, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at West End Baptist Church, 116 West End St, Newport, TN. We will start gathering at 6:30 and the program will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. Benefits of this fundraising event support the Scout programs in Cocke County. Many business and community leaders will be attending, and we hope you can join us.
