ABOUT THE CCC AWARD: The CCC Award recognizes and honors a deserving person who demonstrates their care for the community and its citizens. This award is given annually to an outstanding person. In keeping with the spirit of giving in East Tennessee, the CCC Award has been created to encourage volunteerism, philanthropy and community involvement. ABOUT THE HONOREE - CHARLOTTE MIMS Life: Married to William Earnest Mims and had 3 children Work: Taught with the Cocke County School System for 30 years Community: Elected member of the Newport City School Board since 2000; Chairman for 9 years Implemented the program for Cherokee Health Clinic to locate at NGS. Pushed for Newport Grammar to start one of the first elementary stem labs in Tennessee. Vice Chair of the Board of Commissioners for the Newport Housing Authority Member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Served as Regent, Vice Regent and currently Flag chairman. Started the annual Flag Day Picnic with help of Josie, Janet, Susanna and others. Lead the Flag Day celebration every year for the Stokely Memorial Library Summer Reading program. Member of the Senior Advisory Council Lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church Member of the Chamber of Commerce Currently serving the board for the Tennessee Children’s Dance Ensemble Supporter of the Education Association by giving to the scholarship program annually. Member of the Retired Teachers Association.
