The Law Office of J. Derreck Whitson is located at 311 East Broadway in the historic area of downtown Newport, Tennessee. He is an attorney in general practice and concentrates in personal injury, criminal defense, family law, and wills, probate and estate law. He routinely practices in the courts throughout Cocke, Jefferson, Grainger, Sevier counties, as well as Knox, Hamblen and Greene counties.

Attorney J. Derreck Whitson is licensed to practice in Tennessee and received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Memphis, Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law in 2005. Derreck attended East Tennessee State University in Johnson City where he earned a bachelor’s degree in social science. He graduated from ETSU with double majors in philosophy and political science in 2002.

Mr. Whitson is admitted to practice in both the state and federal courts by the Tennessee Supreme Court and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He attends continuing legal education seminars to keep current on Tennessee personal injury, criminal defense, divorce law and estate law issues. He also attends national and state bar association conventions to keep informed about current initiatives that involve the practice of law.
