About Us
The Newport Bargain Barn was founded in 1972 by Ed and Betty Oury. Their mission was simple; they wanted to provide quality groceries at an affordable price to East Tennessee and the surrounding Western North Carolina area.
Their son Chip was involved in the family business at an early age. He worked hand-in-hand with his parents from day one; learning the business inside and out until 2005 when Chip took over the family operation.
Today, this tradition continues with the addition of three of his children being involved in the family business.
